What makes you a schuh person?

I am a fashion conscious individual and keep up with the latest trends, and probably have enough shoes to open up my own ‘schuh Shop’. I use my infectious personality to motivate my staff and create a friendly, relaxed and professional environment for our valued customers.

This is your schuh life! Tell us how it happened?

Now then, let me have a think about this!! I started as a ‘wee’ Saturday girl at our Market Street branch, Manchester back in February 1994. I worked in both Manchester and Leeds during my time at university. On completing my studies transferred back to Leeds part-time and became full-time. I was later promoted to Trainee Manager in Liverpool. I have worked as a deputy manager in Commercial street (Leeds), Argyle Street (Glasgow) and Market Street (Manchester). I managed my first store in Hull in May 2000, then moved to Newcastle in October 2001 as store manager and currently manage our Leeds Briggate store since June 2002. If you are ambitious, have drive and determination to succeed, then a career is available for you at schuh!!

So what do you do all day?

Well, what can I say, every day is a different day!! My job role is varied from managing the day to day running of a busy store which includes providing a high standard of customer service, training and developing of the team, and managing the product to meet the customers’ needs. As well as running the store, I help with some field responsibilities which include organising and planning of training days, mentoring concession managers and completing our weekly regional newsletter.

And where do you want to go from here?

schuh offers great career progression which has been proved in my work history. I’m an ambitious and career driven individual and waiting for the right opportunity to arise, hopefully into field management.

What’s your favourite thing about working at schuh?

I have got to say the people. During my time at schuh I have met lots of different people who have supported me through my development. I am now returning the favour and take great satisfaction from training and developing individuals to further progress their careers.

Psst tell us a secret! How can I get your job?

My job, you can’t have it - its mine!!! Well if you are committed, passionate, hardworking and determined to succeed then there is no secret. Provide the right attitude and the rest will follow!!

What is your favourite schuh brand?

I would have to say UGG!

What makes you a schuh person?

I'm very chatty and bubbly and like to have fun at work whilst still working hard - I've only ever worked for schuh so I guess I don't know how to be anyone else?

This is your schuh life! Tell us how it happened?

10 years ago this month (Happy Birthday to me) I joined schuh at 16 years old as a christmas temp - I was then successful in being kept on as a part-time staff member whilst I studied at college. I didn't really know what I wanted to do with myself for a career and schuh very much helped me with that decision when I was offered a trainee managers job once I finished college. I then worked my way up through junior management into senior management throughout the years and went on to run the biggest store in the Kids business - Lakeside Kids. I stayed within the kids business for 3 years and have now moved back to main chain to run the Kingston store.

So what do you do all day?

Every day is different for me to be honest, which I love. My days vary from being on the shopfloor, training staff and managers, feedback and goal sessions with managers and staff, people development all round and progression training. I love the fast paced atmosphere and I love a challenge. The best feeling is knowing you have helped someone to go on and achieve a career within schuh. The busiest days are the best days for me!

And where do you want to go from here?

I would like to go on to run one of the top 10 biggest stores in the company out of 126 stores and then re-join the kids business as a regional manager.

What's your favourite thing about working at schuh?

The people - I really think that all the people in the company from stores, to head office, to regional managers etc really make the company what it is. They really make all the hard work worth it!

Psst tell us a secret! How can I get your job?

Hard work and determination...and don't forget to have a little fun too!

What is your favourite schuh brand?

    I'd have to say Adidas!

I am an energetic individual who drives the team and keeps everyone energetic and motivated to do well, I show a passion to succeed and to do the very best we can together as a team.

This is your schuh life! Tell us how it happened?

I first joined schuh in 2011 as a full timer; I moved from Scotland to Bournemouth to take up this position. I worked hard and took on a lot of responsibility which enabled me to work my way up to trainee in Bristol Cribbs Causeway after only 9 months. I worked hard and completed my trainee folder in just over a year and then was ready for the next step up to Deputy Manager, which is when I moved to Bristol Cabot Circus and I have been in this role for just over a year and will be looking to move onto a more senior role soon.

So what do you do all day?

I keep the staff motivated and provide and maintain high levels of customer service. I also train and develop the team, maintain my own responsibilities and run the day to day tasks required when running the store.

And where do you want to go from here?

I'm looking to work my way up to a senior deputy role in one of our London stores soon.

What’s your favourite thing about working at schuh?

The best thing has to be the people at schuh and the fun atmosphere we create. I have met and worked with a lot of different people during my time in the Company and I can honestly say they have all been great. The opportunities to progress are also really good and as a Company schuh invest a lot into individuals to help them succeed in their schuh career.

Psst tell us a secret! How can I get your job?

By working hard, be willing to learn and take on new responsibilities and have a real determination to do well. Have a positive and fun attitude and just be yourself.

    What's your favourite schuh brand?

  • Beth Beth Trainee Manager Edinburgh Frederick Street read more about the Trainee Manager position

What makes you a schuh person?

I'd say I'm positive and fun and I choose the right attitude. I am very, very chatty and I love making people happy by providing customers with the best service. Having a shoe obsession helps too I guess.

This is your schuh life! Tell us how it happened?

Well... I started as a little part time when I was in my sixth year at school. I was in work more than I was in school. I obviously loved my job and made the decision that schuh was for me and I wanted to progress. When I left school I wanted to go full time but there were no positions, so I waited and picked up as many shifts as I could and then luckily for me a position came up not long after. I was full time for only a few months before I applied and was interviewed for my first management role. I was successful in my interview and was given Trainee Manager at The Gyle. I worked there for around 8 months and loved it! I then moved to Frederick Street for a new challenge and to work with a new team.

So what do you do all day??

I could be serving customers, being SFL (Sales Floor Leader), merchandising products on the shopfloor, doing in store training with our staff, conducting interviews, completing operational tasks, leading the service effort on the shopfloor (after all, schuh is all about our amazing customer service), keeping the team motivated by doing fun incentives to encourage them to meet their targets. I go on training days in Glasgow to learn new things about different aspects of the job to help me progress in my role. While doing this I am working through my trainee folder so I can take the next step in my career.

And where do you want to go from here?

Keep working my way up the management ladder and who knows where I will end up!!!

What’s your favourite thing about working at schuh?

The people. Definitely! I have met my bestest friends whilst working for schuh. There are so many opportunities to meet new people from different stores or from different parts of the company. Also the customers, getting to create relationships with them whilst they are shopping with us. Something else I love about working for schuh is that we are all about "individuality and personality". People are allowed to be themselves in a safe working environment and are able to express who they really are.

Psst tell us a secret! How can I get your job?

Be yourself! Have a good can do attitude and be positive. Be hardworking, willing to learn and ready to take on any challenge.

What is your favourite schuh brand?

Got to be Vans! There are so many different styles and I love the collaborations they do! Out of my whole shoe collection...the majority of it is Vans!

  • Sam Sam Supervisor Glasgow Fort Kids read more about the Supervisor position

What makes you a schuh person?

Being confident and able to provide great customer service day-in-day-out, having a friendly attitude and obviously knowing a bit about the shoes helps, which really helped me because I probably own enough shoes to open another branch!

This is your schuh life! Tell us how it happened?

As soon as I left school I applied for a sales advisor job in a new store that was opening not far from where I live, the interview went great and I knew right away I'd love to work for the Company - and two years later I'm still here and now in a role as a Supervisor!

So what do you do all day?

When I'm on the shopfloor I set the pace for the rest of the team, making sure to lead by example and go the extra mile for our customers whenever I can! Other than that I assist the rest of the management team with the everyday running of the store, as well as feeding back to staff on how they can improve their service.

And where do you want to go from here?

Due to other ongoing commitments (University), Supervisor is a great position for me just now as it still offers me a great amount of flexibility, but at the same time some extra responsibility. Who knows what the future could bring though...

What’s your favourite thing about working at schuh

Definitely the team atmosphere, everyone who works here really wants to see the Company do well and we always work as a team to make sure this happens, which is clear to anyone who comes in our store. This makes schuh a really great Company to work for!

Psst tell us a secret! How can I get your job?

First of all you need to show you love what you do! Supervisors ALWAYS have to be willing to help - and not just our customers but also the rest of the team if they need a little bit of help with product knowledge or kids fitting, for example.

What is your favourite schuh brand?

    Adidas

  • Nina Nina Part-Time Supervisor Sheffield Meadowhall read more about the Part-Time Supervisor position

What makes you a schuh person?

Becoming a schuh person is easy...you just need to be friendly and willing to build rapport with customers. I take time and effort to ensure that each customer leaves in satisfaction. Even when the store is busy, it is still so important to make sure each customer is taken care of individually!

This is your schuh life! Tell us how it happened?

So I always liked shoes, and this time...about 4 years ago? I applied to work at schuh. I handed a CV into the store manager who called me a few days later offering me an interview. It was a group interview which I was super nervous for, but they managers were lovely and made us feel at ease. After a few days I was offered the job and started quite soon after that.

So what do you do all day?

At the start of my shift, I will do a 'chat' with the other members starting with me. This entails letting them know how much we need to make, targets and other news we might need to let them know. After this, we go out on the shop floor. I approach every customer, letting them know where I am if they need a size. I keep an eye out on the dashboard ensuring each team member is trying their hardest to get their target. I also help supervise the till area making sure any returns are going through legitimately.

And where do you want to go from here?

When the dreaded time comes for me to leave schuh and go into the big wide world...I will hopefully be starting social work in the children and family sector.

What’s your favourite thing about working at schuh?

The staff and managers make going to work pleasant. I feel sometimes that schuh isn't only where I work, it is a place where I can forget about everything. The course I am doing is quite trying and working at schuh definitely takes my mind off things. The staff are brilliant, everyone gets along which creates such a great working atmosphere.

Psst-tell us a secret! How can I get your job?

To become a 'schubie' there are certain qualities which you must show during the interview process. You must be confident, chatty and have a LOVE OF SHOES!!

What is your favourite schuh brand?

I am a Converse girl deep down. Every year I refresh my converse, they fit nice and there are lots of styles to choose from. During winter I do usually treat myself to a new pair of schuh boots! My mum and sister also buy a pair of winter boots each year too! They are comfy and so reasonable - especially with the discount hehe!

I think as a schuh person it is essential to be confident, friendly, outgoing and happy but I feel it is important that you are a team player.

This is your schuh life! Tell us how it happened?

After leaving school I had my eyes on creating a career in retail and what better place to do it than at schuh. I had always heard good things about the company from my sister who also works for schuh and I knew straight away that I wanted to be part of such a fantastic business.

So what do you do all day?

I work in the stockroom full time as part of a great team. We carry out our everyday task of which include; deliveries, organising stock, processing orders (maybe the shoes you have just purchased online!) and keeping the stockroom tidy. No two days are ever the same and I love the variety of jobs. We are there to support the shopfloor staff and ensure their jobs are made as easy as possible.

And where do you want to go from here?

At the moment I'm doing my pre-managment essentials. So hopefully I will progress into management as I would love to run my own schuh store one day.

What is your favourite thing about working in schuh?

One of my favorite things about working at schuh are the people I work with. It's a great environment to work in. I spend alot of time with the team outside of work, we usually try and organise some payday drinks and I can honestly say I love all the people I work with!

Show that you're a confident, positive, motivated and a happy person. Someone that brings something different to the team.

  • Ciaran Ciaran Trainee Manager Aberdeen read more about the Trainee Manager position

What makes you a schuh person?

A bubbly personality and a can do attitude! Being able to have fun whilst getting things done makes for a great schuh employee!

This is your schuh life! Tell us how it happened?

I started off as a Christmas temp in 2012 in the Dublin Store but I was let go after the season ended. I came back as a summer temp the following year on a 3 hour contract. I eventually ended up doing some supervision shifts, working in different stores, helping with rebuilds, and earned myself a 15 hour contract. Not long after that, a position for Trainee manager came up in Aberdeen so I jumped at the chance! 2 weeks later I was on a plane to Scotland and I haven't looked back!

So what do you do all day?

There's soooo much to do every day! All our employees are great and make it all so easy. We deal with cash, merchandising, training, communicating with customer service and other managers, seasonal moves and above all we provide great customer service!

And where do you want to go from here?

Scotland is where I always wanted to be, so I'm going to stay in Aberdeen for my training. I'd love to work in Head Office in Livingston for a while and eventually a shop in Edinburgh but I'm open to moving around, there's so much scope for development and movement...it's great!

What’s your favourite thing about working at schuh

The people. They're all so great, helpful, polite, friendly and nothing is ever too much to ask if you're stuck! It was difficult moving to a new country even though it's only across the pond, but I knew I'd be fine moving from one great team to another.

Psst tell us a secret! How can I get your job?

Stand out! We like fun individuals here with lots of personality. I think it's great that the company values personality over experience. I always say you can learn on the job but you can't teach a fun personality.

What is your favourite schuh brand?

That's a tough one right now! I'm really into my boots at the moment since it's coming into winter, but I'd have to stick with Nike. I'm mad for Roshe Run at the moment. I've got about 6 pairs in different colours and anytime a new colour comes into the company...I have to have it!
